What's the story on that 30th Anniversary edition 7909? Does it look identical to the original, or did they make some changes to it...cosmetic or otherwise? Do you have a photo of the faceplate?

I am SO jealous to hear that you've got one "factory fresh" just waiting to be installed in the "right" vehicle. I have been checking e-Bay recently for new listings for 7909 (original or 30th Anniv)...I think that would be an awesome basis for a SWEET system in my K5 when the time comes....

Don't suppose you'd consider selling yours...wouldya?

I've heard that manufacturing numbers on the 30th Anniversary 7909's range from 250-500 depending on who you talk to. I don't know if these are accurate or not. I have heard from several people that some of the Alpine dealers didn't get any and the most that ANY shop got was one or two. Pretty crazy huh?
Anyways this dude I've been friends with since I was about 14 was a manager at a shop which also happens to be about the biggest Alpine dealer in town. So they got one and he paid the shops cost on it of $700. Thats another thing I found out about. At the other shops across the country, some of them kind of auctioned it off to the highest bidder. They also said that people ended up paying in between $1400-$2000. Anyways, I made my friend promise to ask me first if he ever decided to sell it. He needed some cash and some other dude offered to buy it, so he lived up to his word and called me that day...and I bought it the next night. Like I said before, all of the packaging, hardware, harness, etc is unopened and in perfect shape. Even the box is perfect.
As far as I know there have been a couple changes. If I'm not mistaken the first 7909 was a pullout???right??? Anyways this one is not, its a permanent mount one. Also I remember there was a sheilding problem with the case on the old 7909's. I can't remember the details but it was a minor problem and an easy fix for any kind of installer. I guess Alpine also fixed that problem on the 30th Anniversary model. Its just without a doubt the baddest CD player ever made.
As for the pics, give me your email address and I'll send them to you. I snapped a couple pics of the box which has a pic of the unit on it so you can see what it looks like.
And as for the selling it part: I had to make the same promise to the dude I bought it from. He said if I ever decide to sell it, he wants the first chance to buy it back. And besides all that, the price would have to be REALLY right for me to get rid of it.

Well hey I'm a Eclipse dealer. I had four JL Audio 12W/3 and two Memphis 1000d's. Sounded awsome. BUT............ Well my Eclipse 55050 skipped, man I tried everything from backstraps to foam. I even installed the Eclipse 8-disc changer. And it would skip from time to time. The only head unit that has not skipped for me is the X-pensive ass Sony CDX-C90 in all its glory. We'll se how it holds up to the 3-15w/3's and 3 JL Audio 500/1's in a few weeks.

Hey Bro, I am sorry that I have been away, things have been very very crazy. Work, the blazer the duallie, the house the PS2!!!!!!! Ok, dude, the very best way to get a hold of me is to email me , or go to my shops website, or seriously here, give me a call at work!!!! Go to my shops website and check out my work!!!! Youll get a kick out of it, also you can get our shops phone number and give me call, I will do what I can to help and to inform.
Now, a few comments on all the other stuff here. Yes eclipse has had some very serious problems with skipping. We WERE an Eclipse dealer, however we decided to drop the line from the shop. Why, well their customer service is the worst that I have ever had to deal with. They are a bunch of assholes. Absolutley the worst. I went round and round with them. Its to bad to, because I think they make one of the cleanest sounding Head units around, however they are not the best built, and by far they are some of the ugliest things around.
I love my Alpine stuff. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Andthey are coming out with a New line, The F1 Status. Holy Crap, this is some amazing product. There will be nothing like it on the market. Ofcoarse your talking about $3000.00 for the head unit, and $4000.00 for the 175 band processer!!! Wow!!!! Anyways, there will never be a "best" Mostly its up to you, what sounds nice to me may sound like ass to you!!!! So listen to your freinds car, and make your own descission!!!!
