i have a 2000 f-350 SD,4x4 with a manual 5 speed.in the last three week it cluncks when i hit the brakes.sorta like something around twenty pounds is slideing forward in the bed? if i get to ease to a stop nothing, but if the light turns red and i have to stop quick. CLUNK?it didn't do it in reverse till today after i looked under it for anything obvious.i tried stopping in neutral just to see and its less noticable.then it started in reverse.it accelerates fine, just stopping. any suggestions on what to look for so i don't get pissed and blow it up?:haha:

I'd check the basics, first. u-joints, slip yoke, etc. those could still make noise in neutral because the diff will still be turning the driveshaft. then, i'd move on to inspecting brakes to make sure you don't have a broken pad, loose caliper, etc (you have 4 wheel disk, right?) and check the suspension for loose parts.

yes 4 wheel discs bro.all the u joints are tight. and there is no slip joint.i pulled and yanked on everything that might move. let me check the rear calipers.

I can't see the pics. I keep meaning to become a paying member, but house payments and gas prices are making me feel really cheap. i'm roughing it all around eating wal-mart store brand mayo and having no cable tv.

my dd had a bang from time to time a few months ago and i found that one lock washers on a bumper bolt broke off and the bumper had play in it. one lock washer and a few minutes later, everything was fine. might be something to look at if the loose caliper isn't the cause.

The '03 F-250 I had would make noise like that from time to time. It also had a squeak in the driveline, that no one could find. I sold the P.O.S. I hated thet truck!

Sorry, I am of no help, I just saw the Ford SD thread & had to rant. Good Luck w/ the fix, & if your dash goes out PM me & I'll tell you why.

Dood.......it's a ford!
So, it'll do that to wind you up.
Yes, there probably is something loose in the bed, they're made that way.

Alternatively, it's coil sprung right? How about tie bar bushes?

If it's not coil sprung then ford probably put tie rods in just to wear out and make a noise anyway:D

Now, be a good chap and stop playing with silly Fords:p:

haha. i just thought you were doing it to make fun of me.

i'd never miss that amount of money, but i've been spewing so much on property taxes, etc. that spending money is really unpleasant.

had another idea just now. is your spare tire loose, maybe? my friend's '92 chevy had thta problem. it was banging around because he didn't crank it up enough. man, he felt stupid.
