Searched 10 pages here and googled for awhile, but could not come up with anything definitive

Not really DD, but this is a backup vehicle and has to drive to trails that are a moderate distance. Hence the reason to go 3/4 ton, FF rear end. This is my first whellable 4x4, and after recounting a couple buddies stories of thier rear axle failure I became worried about reliability:eek1:.

So, current setup is 1/2 ton 15x10 3.75" rims with 35 12.50 Maxxis buckshots. Used the chalk method to assure tread contact and resulted in 28#/26#. Will I be able to get good tread wear on an 8" rim or is it not worth the potential to air down further:dunno:

***EDIT** Forgot to mention Maxxis recomends 10" rim

Sorry for the long winded post and TIA,
Kenny

I run 35/12.50/16 BFG MT's on an 8" wheel and DD mine and i get about 50K out of a set of tires.

I ran 35 12.5's on 16.5 x 6.75" rims as a daily driver for about 4 years. They wore just fine...

You'll be fine on a 8" rim. It's better in about every way.

I had 35/12.50/16 bfs at on my 2500hd on 8inch wheels and at 35 psi i got almost 50,000 miles and then sold em....also now i have a 13.50 on 8inch wheels, thats a lil much. The procomps only lasted 25,000 miles like that and lots of rotating.

I run 37X12.5X15 MTRs on an 8" rim and drive to and from the trails. I have no issues with tire wear. I also DD'd it until fuel prices shot up and forced me to drive the skittle.

I run 37x12.5x16 SS SSRs on 16x8 steel wheels. Drove it every day for a few years, never even had a leak. Now its sitting, waiting for me to get around to fixing it.

Before that, I ran 33x12.5x15 BFG AT on 15x7or8 (cant remember) AR aluminum wheels for several years. Again, no problem at all.

I have run 35x12.50 on 8" wheels for several years, never had a problem. Most of the time I like the way they look better than the same tire on a 10" wheel.

I run the same size and tire on my dd bronco great tire wear and i run them at 25 or 30 and the same size wheel 8 you should be a ok. I had the bfg muds before the maxxis and i like the maxxis alot better they peform better off road aswell.

your tire guy must have hated you. how the hell did you get the beads to seat and how long did it take?

It was fine, either the guy was good or it just wan't an issue. All 4 were on, aired up, balanced and on the truck in about an hour.

Someone needs a new tire guy. Mine were just like tRUSTyK5's. I showed them 36x12.5-16.5 Wrangler RT/II HMMWV tires and stock GM 16.5x6.25" wheels and all they said was, "do you want to watch?"

Took them about 20 minutes total with me helping to move them around.

It may be the 16.5 bead area is a bit more forgiving...then again I also had a set of 39.5" x 15 x 15 TSL's on some 15x8's. :D

In the 1970's 16.5x9.75 wheels were optional on the F350, what was the widest 16.5" wheel offered from chevy in the 70's? Will 12-16.5 ground hawgs fit 16.5x8" or 16.5x8.25" wheels? Will these tires fit a 73 K20 ok without a lift? Thanks

We have a super sweet tool called a "Cheetah" Basically a big ass air tank to hold air to 125PSI, with a valve and tube. Open the valve all the air shoots into the tire...Great invention.:D

Had to do a set of 38 12.5 on 15x10s...could not have done them without the cheetah.
