How common or uncommon are the heavier 6x6s? 5 tons Like the M813 M923's?

I know the M35 2 1/2toners are fairly plentiful, but I'm sort of interested in a heavy cargo truck.

Next question is how difficult is it to get an auctioned military truck across the border? anyone?

would a better bet be to buy one thats at least "2nd" hand out of the military? like a private sale or from a company...then import it across the line?

I'd like to find something like one of these.........

ok after googling a little........I guess AM general produced about 120,000 of the M809 series and its variants.

I guess I'm asking are they around the US still or have most been wrecked overseas somewhere?

still lots of them around. They are on govliquidation all the time and several of the military surplus dealers have them. The 5 tons are a whole lot more truck than the 2.5 ton trucks. In the US you have to have CDL of some sort to drive a 5ton and they cost a lot more to purchase than a deuce making them less appealing to most people.

AFAIK all the 5 tons are on their way out as they are replaced by the new family of trucks.

I'd expect, unless we provide them as surplus to a bunch of other countries (like Iraq) that they should start selling for less as supply increases?

I think getting one into Canada would only be paying the duty at the border. There aren't any emissions to deal with or safety laws so everything else should be a cakewalk.

If you buy one from govliquidation.com count on it not being road ready when you go get it. You'll need a trailer or a tow truck to retrieve from there. I bought my blazer from them and what I did when I picked it up was use a rollback wrecker to stick it inside the semi trailer I was pulling at the time. Mine needed a starter and batteries to run. yours might run but have no brakes or something like that. Most of their vehicles have dead or missing batteries.

I've seen them for sale around here every now and then. My dad and I go to a military swap meet every year in wisconsin (actually its this weekend!) I have seen a few 5-tons and they aren't that much more. Last year someone had a 5-ton wrecker and I think he wanted like 6,000 for it.

wreckers are usually the most expensive varient I run across. Any I have seen in good shape are $10,000 and up. Military trucks go for stupid amounts of money in my neck of the woods. Its good to know others are having better luck

Thanks for the input guys, its all good.........I have no interest in any variant other than a cargo truck/ personnel carrier.

I know you have very different licensing down south there, than us. So I'm not sure how that would play out. I have my air brake endorsement on my license already. but I may or may not have to upgrade the class. That nothing for me to do.

I may bide my time to see if these new rigs push down the cost of the older pigs. But I'm not sure I want to get involved with the govliquidation auctions from up here, I can see it being a logistical nightmare. I might have to hold out for a private sale.

OK browsing the gov liquidation site for a while..............seems the M35A2 is everywhere. probably keeping the costs down.

but I notice there is a NO FOREIGN NATION CLAUSE on all the 6x6s and large trucks. At the bottom of each listing is a big red warning for an end user certificate..........Oh well. Time to look at other sources.

I did notice 1 M35A3 nice truck. super singles. CTIS. automatic tranny......I would take one of those..........looks much newer than the A2s though.
