I've driven this 207k Sub up from San Diego to Sacramento, with a few side trips. After 1000 miles, I've started my return trip to NY, 3000 miles. After the LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGgg ascent to Lake Tahoe, the downhill side revealed a pretty pronounced front wheel shudder. The rotors looked real nice when I rotated the tires at 4x4HIGH.
I replaced the rear 1/2 ton springs w-3/4 ton ones yesterday, and the ride quality improved alot. Only a little rear sag now!
I looked at the front end, and shocks look dry, and the truck rides so tight, that I'm a little perplexed. It only does the wobble whilst going downhill, not even on hard stops on level ground. It's loaded with about 1000 lbs of Corvair junk. It has LeMans 33"x15" new tires, Load range "C" with 45 front, and 42 rear. I need to adjust that, as I wanted more press in the back, but rotated tires in the rain.
I don't believe it has a steering stabilizer. Hmmm, good question...
I've got several of these 4x4 Subs, and havn't ever had this prob, but also don't go down too many really big mountains. The '91 did the dance whenever I applied the brakes. I tried diff pedal pressure, holding the steering wheel titer, etc. It only stopped when the grade leveled.
