Death wobble....undriveable......

What about pinion angle? Could that be setting it off? The u bolt kit came w some angle shims, but I diddnt install em

Caster angle actually is the problem child. Yep, that too.

Get thee to the house of cheap Chinese

Assuming your parking surface isn't level, stick it on the ground, then subtract that from the reading across the top of the knuckle or steering arm.

Caster should be ~4* positive...

There is one thing I have not seen mentioned. Its so basic that a lot of folks skip over it and start looking at other things.

Chock the back wheels, jack up both sides of the front end, on jackstands, grab a front tire and try turn it left and right.

You will almost always be able to move it a little, but I suspect that you will see a lot of slop somewhere.

Look to see where that is coming from. In a perfect world, the tires would be absolutely rigid. In your case something is obviously moving.
If slight pressure does not to it, try hard. And try both tires.

In a lot of cases, you can turn the wheels through the steering box. That is not what you are looking for. If the box wants to turn, either lock the steering or have someone hold the wheel.

Some DW that occurs at higher speeds involves slop that is too tight to find this way, it takes the load of driving to show it up.

Yours should be obvious. That much wobble at that low speed, and you should be able to rattle it back and forth.

If its not the axle u-bolts, I'm making a WAG of a loose steering box on the frame with a possible cracking problem.

BTW, if you do not own a set of jackstands, and you intend to work on this truck, stop what you are doing and get some.

Or else double or triple up on your life insurance. No sense in leaving your wife stuck with a bunch of bills...............

Ah ,hey its ok, i just got insurance j/k:waytogo::haha: thanks! Anymore ideas ,just throw them out there,i was thinking the same thing, its such a large wobble, why is it so hard to find the prob?:doah:

How tight are the shackle bolts? When that stuff gets too loose, the whole axle can walk side to side.

You might also try putting the sway bar on for troubleshooting purposes, as it reduces that effect. Unless you already have the sway bar, of course.

Gawdammit....

PM me yer address. so I can come over and figure this out.
It's really bugging me know, and, as the PO of said axle,
I feel compelled to come solve this problem.

That, and I have ALL the proper tools.... Including jack stands, :haha:

replaced the wheel bearings ,inner and outer, checked for play both verticly and horizontal,,found none took her for a drive, and wham! Same problem.help?:doah: also, this is a deep, swooping death wobble at low speeds,20 mph

I have not read through this whole thread, but this screams tire problem.

Got frustrated for a good month ........decided to throw a 35 dollar steering stabilizer at it as a last ditch..........things are a lot better for sure.its drivable to the local wheeling spot at least. Ill have to revisit this at a later time. But she's ready to wheel locally at least!
