death wobble *update*

it's a big 2" washer not sure how thick it is. but by puting 1 or 2 on top of the kingpin spring it gives it more preload. and helps out with the death wobble but u can only use the fender washer trick on dana 60 axles.....

I have a king pin rebuild kit coming Monday, until then i'm getting by with using washers. I got a bit carried away and added two fender washers under each cap which stopped the death wobble, but now the steering is vague and has no 'return to center'. I should probably pull out one washer on each side this weekend, but on the other hand I'll have new bushings and springs on Monday so I may just ignore it until then.

Too many washers is almost as bad as having death wobble...

i agree with that. but I just replaced my springs and bushings last friday and the wobble was worse than when I had the old bushing and springs in there with 2 fender washers. now that I put 1 fender washer on eash side it's finally gone. and my steering returns to center.

I just meant that you need to be careful to not get carried away in your exuberance to eliminate death wobble...like I did.:doah:

I'll be doing new bushings and springs too, and could also need to add one washer per side after that. There seems to be a large enough number of D60's that need a bit more pre-load to be wobble free even with new parts in em.

Congrats on getting it dialed in though!
