I need some help deciding on witch clutch to run in my pickup . I am in the middle of swaping my old 700r4 out for a hyd. clutch sm465 beast. My fist thought is to go with a centerforce dual friction but after reading some customer reviews im thinking otherwise.

I normaly run 37"x14.5" toyo MTs and lil' 30" skinnys in the winter(good old canadian winters). I do like to do some wheeling/mudding but mostly a dailey driver/hunting rig. My rearend is locked with a detroit locker and i am running 4.10 gears if this helps. Thanx for any advise fellas.

i've got one in my truck w/ 39.5's & 4.88 gears & so far i like it. most of those reviews were from different vehicles. the clutch is definently stiffer than stock but i've gotten used to it.

check to make sure the pressure plate will clear the diffrent bend fork for the throw out bearing.

i found out the hard way the hydro fork hit the deeper pressure plate on a heavy duty 3 finger setup that was in my old setup when i converted to hydro. no fun pulling it all out 2 times.

Napa has 3 different grades, i have their heavy duty clutch, I bought their better one but a friend works there and gave me a good deal . So far so good turning my 39s, decent pedal but not super stiff. My centerforce lasted 3 years, when my trans stuck in 2nd it tore the clutch up real bad from trying to get it out. I didnt like the super stiff pedal for wheeling, kinda sucked for that but it took lots of beatings and id buy another again just a lil to get used to.

so ur running a napa clutch and its working well for you, what grade out of the 3 are u running? Centerforce has stiff pedal but other then that u recomend it?

I'm running a Centerforce II and love it, it actually has a fair amount less force to disengage than the stock one because its a diaphragm style vs. borg/beck.

If I did it again for a truck, I'd probably get a 12" Luk diaphragm clutch (basically the small block trucks got 11" clutches and the big block trucks got 12" clutches, both fit on the same flywheel)

would u say the dual friction would be overkill then?

I actually have a dual friction in my DD and love it but Centerforce clutches aren't really meant for four wheeling type stuff. They do fine but I think the LUK would be just as good for what you want, and quite a bit cheaper.

Actually if i remember right mine now is a 12 inch clutch, is the diaphram style for sure and its the heavy duty clutch from napa. They have 3 stages : light duty 11inch, medium duty 11inch and heavy duty 12 inch. Ill see if i have the receipt for the part number but i doubt it...was 160.00 with a discount tho.

You don't need this clutch, it needed for big engines with high RPM's in your truck you will not get any of the benefits but pay the premium. Just get the NAPA 12" diaphragm style and you will not regret it.

Luk pro gold diaphram clutch. I couldn't find one locally until after I bought a clutch through Jegs.com.

I ended up with a 12 1/4" Hays diesel puller clutch. A little heavy for a diaprham clutch, but still a lot better than the Borg & Beck. The Hays gets most of it's "extra" clamping power from the extra 1/4" diameter.

Anyways, Bert's down here on the coast carries Luk.

I finally went with the napa HD clutch kit due to avalibility. It was in stock and a 15min drive away as opposed to geting a luk shipped up from the coast. I got the clutch kit and my flywheel re surfaced for $265 canadian. I hope she does the trick.
