i have the opportunity to buy 2 trucks from 2 diff sellers and I'm so torn. so i thought i would throw it out there to see what ya'll think. please don't be biased to the 4x4.
1st) is a 69 k5 that someone took the roof & back wall from a pickup cab and permanently welded it to the k5 making it look like a short/short pu(kinda like an old ford uni-body). so its no longer a full vert or even a 1/2 vert for that matter. it is cracking at the top of bed rail, but i believe it could be fixed..it has a running v8/auto/not sure on t-case. it is fairly rusty in the rockers, but the rear 1/4's seem solid around the wheel wells, but the rear marker lights are missing and it looks really rusty between the inner & outter 1/4 walls. the front bumper is crooked a little but i couldn't find what was causing it. the brackets didn't look bent as well as the frame still looked straight, but its obvious that 1 side is pushed back an inch or so...it actually put a small dent in the grille..but i want to put a 68 front cap on it(i already have it), so the tweaked bumper may not matter...frame is not cracked around the steering box.. it has alot of ''rigged'' stuff on it that could be fixed fairly easily, they are asking $700,..i think i can get it for $600-$650
i also have another 69 grille, i actually have a whole other 69 k5 that i saved from the crusher..its a rolling tub w/top and the floor from right behind the seats back are solid but from the floor from step up forward the floors are pretty bad..and the frame is mangled...original seats were still in the back of it. and its in line to be a project..a 2wd conversion street cruiser.
2nd) is a swb 68 c-10 w/250 L6 & 3 on the tree..rockers are rusty and needs a new rh rear 1/4 panel(it will probally get several thin layers of filler until i can buy a new 1/4 panel or source 1 from a yard)..the owner pulled the sparkplugs several yrs ago to do a ''tune-up'' and never got around to putting plugs back in, so its been sitting w/ those holes open to the outside but under the hood...how bad do you think the cylinder walls will be rusted as i want to retain the original engine/trans..other than that it is a fairly solid truck, he's asking $500 & i think i can get it for $400-$450. and it would make a nice cruiser around town, especially with the 6 cylinder.
i have the cash to buy them both & just sit them out in my yard w/the other dozen or so trucks i've drug up and wait on their turn to get fixed & wait until i save up some more cash for the rides.
my main concern is did they ruin the value of that 69 k5 by grafting that top on it? again probally wouldn't matter as if i do get it, i'll put a 68 front on it & more than likely never get rid of it and make a unique mall crawler out of it, but the question still remains is it ruined or will the low production #'s of the 69 k5's make this truck still more than your average beater?? heres some pics of the k5..i don't have any of the 68 truck yet.
