need some opinions here guys.
I sold some other squares and acquired these......I bought the blazers as a package deal. The K30 got off a friend that was gonna part it, couldn’t allow that.
the big primered 90 has a 383, which was the sole selling point as that motor will end up in my blazer soon to replace my 305!!! Also has a good 700r4. And possibly a tuff country 6” lift?
The blue/black one is a 86 350 with 465/208, has been sittin for about 5 years, a mechanic put in new clutch, slave, master, belts and hoses and the PO couldn’t afford it so the mechanic bought it from him and it sat.
Lastly 83 GMC K30, no motor or drivetrain. No axles when I got it. I happened to have a K30 14b and a 8 lug 44 to throw under it. Fairly straight rust free. Front clip is in the bed.

so my thoughts are, my son is 11 and if we started a build now, maybe done by the time he gets in high school . Lol.

he was loving the 90 K5, but the more I look at it the more disappointing it is. Has some rust and rot issues when I looked behind the fenders and under the truck. Looks like they bondoed over it in many areas. But it is cool cuz it’s a 90 and TBI model. Idk.

then I have this 86, rust isn’t bad. Someone cut the pass floor pan out to replace I guess. But the front clip and doors have been replaced. And it’s a 4 speed!

the K30 is pretty cool too. And I’m a sucker for cab lights. I have an extra set of hydro pedals so I can build however I want. Lol.

my son can’t make a decision. He likes all of them. Haha. We drove the gray blazer home and he fell in love with it. I think he wants a blazer cuz of my blazer and all the wheelin trips we’ve done. lol. But he loves the K30 too.

what do you guys think? I like the primer blazer but is the rust a deciding factor? Either way I think I’m gonna build the K30 but tryin to decide which to build as HIS first truck.

I like the '90 because of TBI and it's a Jimmy! It's all one color, too, but..
NP241 with electric speedometer too.
Yes, there is the potential to combine parts from the '86 and the '90, too. Swap the 4 speed, swap a 32 spline input into the 241, put a decent TBI 350 into either.

Will he possibly have a few "whoops " moments with his first truck? Good chance, so will some rust bother in the long term?

Yeah I know. I like that it’s a 90, I may have another 4 speed to convert it. I’ll have to post some pics up tomorrow of the rust. The panels may need to be replaced on the rear and the floor pans. I just hate that it’s there and don’t wanna deal with it. Lol. But weighing the options. The interior is already stripped from the PO. I think they kinda half assed covered all the rust with bondo and maybe gonna paint themselves and gave up on it. I guess if I have a couple years to deal with it, just do one section at a time.
Maybe I just need to decide between the blazers and take what I want off the other and sell it off.

If you want the engine out of the '90, then it is already a donor. Move the TBI to yours or the '86. Then you have all of the parts on hand already.
:waytogo:

Take a few pieces here and there from the whole works to make a great starter base. Then reassemble a few sellable ones out of the remaining parts to fund the project :D

the one in the 90 is a 383, but is carbd. That’s what sold me on both blazers after seeing how much a 383 block on Jegs is. This way, I get my motor and two trucks for the same price as just a motor on their site.
and I think I have a TBI intake and TB off a 93 to maybe put on another 350 if I drop another motor in it.

I do not understand the questions in the original post. You keep one and the boy gets his first 2 trucks. Every teenager needs a backup. One to drive and one to wrench on.

I usually don’t understand myself half the time anyway. Lol. If had the cash I would keep them all. I just sold 3 and it kills me to watch them load up on a trailer. I get attached to my junk......but I like the K30, so if we don’t build it for my son, I’ll still keep it and build it anyway. It’s a fairly straight rust free truck.
My other stepson is 17 and has a 80 K10. We do pleeeeeenty of wrenching. He’s on his third set of doors and fenders :haha:

I think I’m leaning more towards just selling the 86 and use it to fund the other 2. With the parts it had in the back I was able to put a grill, bezels, and bumpers back on. Went to drive it out of the garage today and the front wheels are locked up. Gotta deal with that now. But I think it will bring in a good chunk of change for the other 2, I’m tryin not to let the rust issue be my excuse not to do the 90 , i think would make a cool 1st truck. That front clip is pretty cool. Wondering how my CUCV grill and bumper would look on it? Or just slap it on the K30 and go for a military style truck....
