Is there a way to decode a vin and know what the truck was supposidly originally equipped with. Motor, paint color, trans, gears etc. I am looking at purchasing a 2nd owner 85k5 that is all origianl.

It might still have the options list on the drivers side inner front fender,or on the glove box...if its gone, you may find a "build sheet" somewhere in the truck--often they stuffed it in the seat springs...it may be possible to bring the VIN # to a dealer and have a reprint of the original "build" printed out,but they wont do it free most likely...I think there is a place online that can do it for a fee too?..

I have the GM cataloge at work and cab get you all the options only problem is I am leaving for vegas in a couple hours and wont be back till Friday if you havent got it decoded by then shoot me a PM and I will run it for you and print it out to scan and send to you
