I guess I have been spoiled by new vehicles.... but it rained here in the south east and I drove my Blaz-r today.... the defrost blows really good in the center... not so good drives side corner.... I think I can fix that by "blocking" some of the center air vent.... the side windows... no prayer... all my newer vehicles have side vents... any one ever tried to install side defrost vents or what do you guys do? :doah:

Also my wipers.... low and high.... low is well.... not too fast and high is EXACTLY the same speed..... wonder what it would take to install intermittent wipers?

wow.... :eek1: no one here uses their windshield wipers or defrost.......

I use mine daily now. I don't have any problems with the windshield corners fogging up. The side windows are another story. Maybe something fell down the vent in yours.:dunno:

I have no idea what it would take to swap the wipers out.

Inside the cab in the heater box is a diverter valve. There is a white nylon connector with a pin running through it. Make sure it's not broken. It will still actuate the valve but not completley. If it's broken replace it with G.M. part #3018715. When installing the pin, it's easier to squeeze the point into a soft piece of wood with pliers

Cool... see I knew people out there were having these same issues.... my blazer is a 85....

***Aslo I found me a AC unit*** my local salvage yard (junk yard around here) I found a AC unit in a 85 2 wheel drive long bed.... now this thing is kinda strange.... see most AC units I have seen have most every thing on the passenger side fire wall with some "stuff" under the dash... well this one has a radiator (home made looking brackets, like a miltifit) AC compressor, and the lines go in on the drivers side near the middle of the firewall.... and every thing is under the dash... the control in the truck says ac, heat, defrost... that is all... the passenger side fire wall looks like my non ac blazer.... I am guessing that this is a "dealer installed" AC unit... I think that would work GREAT... cause I just rob it all.. stick it uner the dash and let her eat... no cutting the fire wall to make all that "stuff" work... any body else know what I am talking about? I will probably go by monday and talk to the guy to see what he will take for the set up and take some pictures for ya.... thanks for the reply's and stay connected here pls.... :D

Not sure if that is a dealer installed AC unit but it is definitely not factory installed as you indicated. One disadvantage to a system like that (most under dash systems) is you will not have air conditioned defrost like you have with the factory system.

The factory system runs the AC while the defroster is on. The air will flow over the AC evaporator, then the heater core, then out the defroster vents. This de-humidifies the air flowing over the windshield and will defrost the glass MUCH faster.

I am sure both systems will cool the truck sufficiently but if your goal is to have a well working defroster then I would suggest the work to put in a factory system would be worth it (it world be for me).

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Rufus

Intermittent wipers on an 85 were a factory option. All that is needed is to change out the wiper switch. HAHA Hope you needed to tighten your tilt mechanism because you are going to have it almost that far apart anyways. When I get more time I will post a few good links to the process. On a related note, If you happen to know someone with working intermittent wipers and same generation truckit would be in your best interest to swap PWMs. That is the black with aluminum fins. Hard to diagnose unless you have a good idea about electronics. On diagnosing your no high speed, you might grab a junkyard motor and park plug. Don't forget that these are swicthed ground systems. So you have a constant hot and switch shows ground to different amounts of the motor windings on low and high. If you get a power plug a d park plug, hook them up and you will know if your wiring or the motor is at fault.

Like Rufus said if you really want a good defroster, stick with the factory system. However, you may still want to grab that aftermarket AC if it is in good condition and cheap. I can't imagine that those are cheap!

Thanks for the reply's guys... to tell you the truth about the defrost... it is not my biggest concern... it would be great to have the defrost like my 06 GMC has but I know it is just not in the cards... and I really don't want to br driving my K5 in a down pour either.... AC is "COOL" My wife says..... "we have to drive the blazer" in the balls hot summer... and it does get hot..... the AC is probably my top most wanted thing probably above the NV4500 that is kinda out there considering once you have the trans the advanced adapter peice I need to run my NP205 10 splin is around $600.... soooo.... AC is "COOL"

My salvage guy is kinda back woods.... I take him my old scrap metal (even when it is high) and he looks out for me when I need something... so hopefully he will remember me..... I will post back tomorrow and let you guys know how is all shakes down..... :D

*** SCORE *** my junk yard guy said I could have the AC parts... what ever I needed... I took a few pics....
The first on is the inside control...

Then the radiator....

Passenger side fire wall....

Drivers side fire wall where the lines go through....

Then lastly the Compressor and Dryer? I think.....

Tell me what you think... can I make this work?
