I am working on the 87 Yota 4runner I just picked up. Need to degrease the trans and tcase, all aluminum. Really thick grease. What is the easiest way to clean it. Don't have a pressure washer or I would do that.

Citrus based de-greaser works well. No different than cleaning any greasy parts really.

I've always had great success with Super Clean

I've used foaming oven cleaner myself, just don't get it on your paint or it'll eat right through it.

I use Easy Off oven cleaner. I just spray it on then drive down to the car wash and use the high pressure washer to rinse it off. If it is really thick it might take a couple times. DO NOT leave the oven cleaner on aluminum more than 5-10 minutes otherwise it starts to eat the aluminum.

I'm going to try the oven cleaner trick on a Sno Cat project, but even at WalMart Easy Off is close to five bucks a can.

The 'Cat is 30 years old and has plenty of what I'll call "caked-on" grease. I have a pretty good pressure washer and it wasn't enough. Hopefully the oven cleaner will do the trick, though I think it'll take a few applications.

I went to a dollar store and bought 20 cans at a buck each. (You should have seen the look on the cashier's face!)
