So... doing an LS swap and I have every intention of keeping my 4 speed since I have 3 of them.

There is an article on ls1tech that has a recipe of parts for properly mating older Chevy gearboxes to the LS engine, they call for a 621 bellhousing and keep mentioning that it's a BBC bellhousing.

The plan is to do a hydro clutch and I wanna make sure I'm getting the right junk.

Also, is run out a huge issue with old Chevy bellhousings? Like is it a common issue?

Here is the article: http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...c-trans-t10-muncie-richmond-tko-ls-motor.html

That article is all about car transmissions. As far as I know there is zero difference between SBC and BBC bells for the SM 465.

I saw mention of Muncie in there and correct me if I'm wrong but the 2x4 and 4x4 are exactly the same minus the main shaft. They're saying the SBC bellhousings have clearance issues? I thought all that stuff was the same regardless of SBC or BBC...

Muncie M20, M21 and M22's would be what they're referencing there...not the Saginaw/Muncie 465 truck trans. It's a whole different world...

our truck stuff is all the same basicly .

2wd or 4wd is in tranny tail only .

and also mech clutch bell or hydro bell.

do watch out tho the tin dust shield and clutch bearing fork are specific to mech or hydro bell .

I'm hoping to use my mechanical bellhousing(s) and retrofit them to be hydro. Haven't really came up with a solution yet. I know Novak sells a kit but it's expensive and I'm looking to use parts that I can get from the local parts stores if I end up having a failure somewhere down the line.

I've used both mechanical and hydraulic bellhousings from sbc's on my bbc's. Zero mods required.

I thought the SM465's had a larger "hole" than the car bellhousings for the input shaft retainer--but its been decades since I had a manual trans and did any swapping..:dunno:

There are car bell housings out there with smaller input holes than the normal SM465 housing. I even managed to buy one accidentally a couple years ago.
