well i finally got the truck driving. its got stock hydroboost setup, stock steering pump, and a psc box. when i turn the wheel quickly, it makes a queeking noise and stops turning, then after a second i can continue turning the wheel, or if if i turn the wheel all the way to lock, it will try to catch up. what could be causing this? bad pump? or do i need a "performance" pump to keep up with the hi-flow psc box? i know steering is slower with hydro-assist (i used to run it) but w/o it i duno why its doing that. any help woudl be great.

did you make sure all the air was bled out???

yea, i bled the steering for about 45min. im thinkin that it might be the pump is bad or cant keep up with the performance box, but i duno??

I think you need a performance pump. My brother has the agr box and superpump (rockram not installed yet) and he can turn his 46's really easy.

im not trying to hijack this thread but, does the agr box/superpump change the ratio?:doah: ...ive always wanted a tighter ratio...basically because its my daily driver.

A tighter ratio will only make for faster steering-less power and wont decrease you turning radius... If you want to turn better you can move the stops on your axles some but best bet is to go crossover...:wink1:

Any chance the steering box is loose or the frame is cracked? Either could cause a loss of effort in one or both directions.

the frame has been cracked and it was welded up. now that i think about it, it did have a little hesitation, and the belt would squeek if i turned too fast. the box is on tight. so a cracked frame could cause that? i guess ill have to have my buddy weld up that area more:mad:

Are you running hydroboost and hydro-assist then?

I've got hydroboost and I've been researching hydro-assist. It is basically hit and miss whether you can get away with both. The problem is that hydroboost loves pressure and hydro-assist loves flow. The hydro-boost unit can limit the flow causing the ram to not actuate properly.

You need to either split out the systems with 2 pumps (that's my plan right now) or have your hydroboost "high-flowed" by Vanco. That runs about $280.

Here are some threads on Pirate where I got some of my info:

nope right now its just regular cross-over w/o assist, thats what i dont understand.

The only thing I can figure is air in the system. When I installed the crossover this winter is seems like it took a long time for the system to settle in. I had to drive it around several times before all of the noise from the pump disappeared. Is the fluid still pretty foamy?

Seems like somewhere I saw a pretty detailed description of bleeding a power steering system. I remember something about spinning the pump in the reverse direction by hand. You might pull the belt and try that a little bit, IIRC that helped mine. :dunno: Sorry I don't remember better, I've slept since then. :)

Are your return lines tee'd together? When you say stock pump, I don't know if you mean stock original for your truck w/o hydroboost, or stock hydroboost pump.

its the stock hydro-boost pump (6.2 diesel). i may end up just getting the psc pump to go with it.

jay, thats the same writeup i looked at before bleeding it so i duno.
