I am getting ready to do an engine swap on the K5 (1990) and was going to delete the rest of the air conditioning system that is left. Everything is gone under the hood except the big black box on the firewall. I have seen in the past a cover that will let you remove the big black box for a smaller one when pulling the air out. What I am wondering is if a stock box off a truck without ac will work instead of paying over $100 for an aftermarket box?

**EDIT**After searching I can't find the aftermarket box. There was somebody selling them on ebay at one time and I can't find anything now. If you know of anything please post up.

why not just make a plate to cover it up. Or cut a piece of sheet metal to fit in place of the hole and weld it up for a clean look. Or are you still keeping the heater.

I need to keep the heater for now. I will eventually go to a aftermarket set up when I cut the dash out but for now I don't want to mess with anything under the dash.

acdelete.com around $140. I was going to do this, but found that going to the summit heater and welding up the firewall was much cleaner. Good Luck.
