What do you plan on doing to it ?

If I had access to the money , I'd buy it either way .

I would do two things :

1. If documented low production car , restore it .

2. If not a real HO , make one hell of a nice street/strip/canyon carver :D

I would give me the phone number :)

You can check with the Pontiac historical Society if you have the VIN. It does cost $35 but it would be worth it since your trying to figure out if its an HO or not.

yeah i am having trouble finding the vin code so far since the vin plate is rusted and unreadable

hopefully it is still readable on the door jamb sticker

hmm

yeah if he is really gonna sell me it with engine and all for 400 then ill probably do it, i can sell the hi po junk off the 350 and make back at least half the $ and then put the 350 in my 71 dually in place of the 305 and turn that engine into an L69 HO 305 after i put in 350 cam and set of flat top L69 pistons and a set of 58cc 305 heads on all for the car
then i need to make another one for the 82 since its a factory 305 car too,.
or i could put the 350 into the 81 c-10 i drive since the old 350 in it is getting tired and its got 882 heads and there is moisture slime under valve covers and all that so i know those heads are going to crap

the 83 i know id drive daily all stock nothing modified

the 82 i dunno what to do yet, it needs a ton but can be driven if i stuck in an engine in it and put the fenders and bumper and everything back on it
maybe should just do that and be able to drive it and say screw the body for now or whatever,

would be better than apart and not driveable,.

hum.

the 83 is looking like its a low number car so far anways

wont know for sure til can figure out what 305 came in it, the numbers off the original 305 out of it shared with L69/LG4/etc 305;s the only differences were the camshaft and pistons, so they were 8.5, 8.6(LG4), 9.3(LO3)and 9.5(L69, LU5, LB9) compression ratios, so...

Are the "H" motors the same between truck and car ? My "H" in the 83 Blazer is a 9.2:1 compression , and sure a shell don't like a lot total timing . I can set intitial to 6-8 max , any more with my distributors curve and vacuum and she pings :D

After some more deliberation, if its an HO id deffently buy it. Those are getting pretty hard to find.

If its not an HO id let it go and spend the money one one of your other projects.........I say this cause i bought an 83 with a maunel trans 3 or 4 years back for $150 and havent touched it cause i keep spending the money on other projects.

You know you want to shred it :ignore:

Your insurance company will also know... and it's free. just give them the vin and they will tell you what came on it from the factory.

the way its looking it is really actually not a true HO car, because i keep seeing and getting told that there was no L69 in 83 without a manual trans, but this one is auto trans

so something is up

and until i get the 8th digit of the vin then i wont know much, also without the vin wont know if its a true trans am or not

the t tops i really like though,
i miss them
since having the 84 Z28 HO 305 with t tops i had a couple years ago as a daily driver

hmm

thanks

HO not H

H would be the vin code digit for LG4 305 which isnt the L69 HO 305

in 1983 it was:
"H" = LG4, 305
"7" = L69, 305 HO
"S" = LU5, 305 Cross fire.

HO 305 in later years was G though

GM like to play around with the digits, just liek with everything else VIN and RPO related

also i just was confirmed that its a true HO 305 L69 700r4 and is a real trans am, just like the 82 is.

maybe i better snag it up hmm

wonder if this one got the WS6 axle or got stuck with a WS7 axle(non disc) due to disc brake axle shortages just like in 82(which is why its drums rear car too WS7)
i better look under there and see,,

it could have aluminum drums though, like my 84 Z28 HO305 had.,
that would be fine with me,

tben the 71 will be saved ill jut put the 350 in it and drive it finally. i cant waste it, its a low numbers truck and is complete, would be a shame, but the next TH400 tranny i come across i am putting that in afte ri save up needed parts- auto column and auto crossmember and have driveshaft shortened(easy)
i already have the linkage parts for that one( i always use 73-up ones)

hmm

thanks

I wonder what shipping would be , seems like everyone has an auto column in their backyard or garage , me too, I went from no cloumn in trail rig to having an auto and 4 speed column :D
