He pulled over for a while to check it out and someone told him to remove the breather. He did and the truck ran fine for 20 minutes and it started doing the same thing again. Does anyone know what is causing it or a simple way to fix it. Any ideas or experiance is greatly appreciated.

Exhaust White smoke, (load ,accelleration and cruise, I believe.)1985_K5_Silverado said:Smoking out the exhaust; white or black smoke? At idle? Under load or acceleration? At a steady cruise?
I know I've heard of this, I just can't remember the fix. I'm thinking it is simple.koldsimer said:white smoke isn't usually good for the diesels is it?

It's possible that the combustion temp is too low. Does the exhaust have an unusually strong diesel fuel odor? It might also be a bad injector.Leper said:Exhaust White smoke, (load ,accelleration and cruise, I believe.)
Coolant level is fine. The truck was on the road for over an hour when it started, so I think the temp is ok.1985_K5_Silverado said:It's possible that the combustion temp is too low. Does the exhaust have an unusually strong diesel fuel odor? It might also be a bad injector.
Is the cooling system level dropping at all? A head gasket leak can do the white smoke thing (steam, of course, but it looks a lot like white smoke).
Has he got an exhaust temp gauge on that thing? I'm just curious if it reads differently (as in lower) than normal.Leper said:Coolant level is fine. The truck was on the road for over an hour when it started, so I think the temp is ok.
