Not sure what's really wrong with mine. Had some terrible noises, then some clunkin' and bangin. Tore it down enough to find some chunks of metal. Looks like sheet metal or shims. Put it back together and about 45 MPH it sounds absolutely horrific. Not sure what else the metal could be other than shims. All the bearings look good and gears look great. Everything rolls smoothly. Shims could cause a bad mesh and still allow things to "feel" and "look" OK. At this point, I think i'll be better off rebuilding one.

Only thing keeping my crew cab off the road right now.:doah:

heck tear it apart and find out.

look in to my tech artical on the 4l80-e 203 to 205 doubler i did tons of pics and good link to great 205 reman with loads of step by step pics.

I will do a complete tear down on it but kinda need to have one ready to go in before I take this one out. One of those, "has to be Mobile" type of deals.

only parts i found diffrent is the case / input / all 32 spline shafts.

so any parts from a reg case will work for hard parts.

and there is a few tin shims on the center gear cluster to set preload on the bearings.

the bronco buildup link i have posted in the tech section is good simple write up. and lots of good info and easy to read.

Looked all through your tech write up. Good info in there.

My only concern is if its a shim that has been chewed, those don't come in a rebuild kit. I could fab one but is there a spec for the preload.

i had 2 divorced 1 was dodge and 1 was ih. only diffrence i saw was the bolt hole positions for the mounts were diffrent. so worst case kirt would need to redo his mount setup. but same basic case yes.

Picked up a dodge locally. thanks to all that replied, emailed or PM'd!
