My 700 is toast and I have a th350 laying around. Not sure what it's out of but it has a driver drop tcase.

Will my tcase bolt up to a 350 or will I need a different one?

I also have a th400 that I could pull from a mobile home. Will it be worth the extra work to get the 400 out and modified for 4wd?

You will need the adaptor and possibly the t-case if it is not the same pattern for the adapter. If yours is a round 6 bolt and the adapter is a race track pattern you will need to use the other t-case.

The lengths are different, 700r4 is longer than a t350, so the crossmember will need to be moved, and driveline lengths may need to be modified.

There may be more, but that's what I know off the top of my head.

As for the t400, that uses a 32 spline output so you would need to have an adapter and t-case that has a 32 spline input to mate them.

IF you had a TH350 from a car or truck (2wd) with the 6" tailshaft, you can unbolt the tail and buy a spacer that will allow it to bolt right up to a 700r4 style T-case with the original adapter, that makes the TH350 the same overall length as the 700r4 was,and no driveshaft mods need to be made..I looked into doing that to my Suburban, which has an ailing 700r4..but unfortunately the TH350 I have was from an '86 G-10 van that has a 9" "tail" and it also has a lock up converter..might as well keep t for a spare for my '81 G-10 van (my original intent, but since it hasn't been registered for 7 years I was willing to use it elsewhere, seeing its original tranny still worked fine)...

CherryK5, you will also need to run a vacuum line to the modulator for the Th350 and adapt your carb to accept a kickdown cable instead of the 700r4 TV cable.

Diesel, I have a short shaft 2wd Th350 laying around. Came with a Camaro I bought years ago, supposedly rebuilt, but I don't know for sure. It's a TC lockup case but you can run without it. I have no TC for it. You can have it if you can use it.

I might be interested in your TH350 ,496 Truck...I could use the converter from the TH350 I have in it...I cant PM you at the moment,as my membership ran out yesterday evidently...:(

I also have a '74 TH400 from a big block Monte Carlo with the short tail, and a spare NP-208 case with a TH400 adapter, but I've not felt up to the task of hauling it out of the shed and trying to mate the two together,I think the TH400 's tailshaft will be just a tad too long to fit into the transfer case going by rough measurments though..

I dont mind losing overdrive and would like the beef of a TH400,but I'm not looking forward to all the mods I'd have to do to swap that in,the TH350 would be a bolt in practically..I'd still need to get a vacuum source for the modulator on either tranny, and I dont know if the detent cable on the th350 could be adapted to the diesel--maybe the 700R4 TV cable bracket would be useable..
