I'm thinking of adding some heads and a cam to my weak goodwrench 350. What kind of power would this combo give me?

Goodwrench 350 universal engine
180cc 68cc AFR Street Heads
Comp Cams 268H or 270H
Edelbrock Performer Intake
Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carb
1 5/8" Headers

top out at 377HP at 5500 RPMs, 399 Ft-lbs at 4500

Personally I wouldn't run that camshaft. Single pattern is old technology, dual pattern will really help with exhaust flow. I'd think more about an Xtreme Energy in similar specifications.

380HP @ both 5500 and 6000
397FT-lbs. @ 4500


I think this setup is about at the edge of what its gonna pull without something changing, namely port flow(heads) or intake manifold. Depending on what you are gonna do with it a single plane might not be a horrible choice. Actually I wouldn't go with the Performer for this setup, but rather the Performer RPM, or Torker II.

XE268H with a Single Plane:
415HP @ 6000
405Ft-Lbs. @ 5000

Really I'd stick with the dual plane as I look at the numbers. A 20HP peak increase is pointless in comparison to the 5 you loose here and there or the like 15 ft-lbs you loose on the bottom. A Performer RPM would be the choice I'd go with on this setup.

Hijack!!

What are the best numbers to make peak HP and Torque for our K5s?? My truck is making 295HP at 4500rpm and 380ft/lbs at 2800... is that too high, or should I not worry about it?

If I should worry about it, what can I change to bring my RPMs for peak down to a reasonable level? I'm not drag racing this thing... and I'll never see 4500rpm.

numbers sound pretty decent to me. What are you running?

Camshaft?
Heads?
intake?
Need more info about your present setup. Your power numbers(rpm) sound decent. I wouldn't worry about going to a lower RPM. You should likely have a fairly flat torque curve which is what really matters. Peaks are only good for bull****ting at the bar.

My 383 project is going to be about 434 ft-lbs. peaking out at 3000 RPMs. Just a little higher than yours. But 2000 RPMs is 426 Ft-lbs. so my torque curve is pretty flat until about 4000-4500. Only 355HP at 5000 RPMs. Mind you those are DD2k numbers and being as my seutp will be TBI I expect slightly lower numbers. Whenever I can afford it I will go with a good aftermarket MPI and an LT4 Hot cam or similar, which will jump it to about 400hp/500ft-lbs. Someday, ha.

All I know for sure is that I have an Edelbrock Performer intake, and a 240 or 250 duration cam with .050" lift. I am still waiting on a response from the engine shop, and then I can give you more definitive numbers, like actuall product model numbers.

I do know that my truck is a dog off the line, and cruises along nicely at 65 at around 2400-2450rpm...

Apparently, I have a super flat torque curve from idle to around 4k... supposedly staying above 350 the entire time, but I don't feel it in the pedals....

according to the charts, 3.42, but my glovebox sticker says 3.08... I have 31" Baja Widetracks and they measure just shy of 31 inches at 30psi under load.

What would it be with the Performer RPM and XE262H or XE268H? I might have to invest in an RPM intake if it's a significant boost in performance.
