desperately need help!

Is the engine dying or the truck power dying and killing the motor? I had a starter with a bad stud in it when I first got my 87. It would start normally, be driving down the road and all of the sudden would die. Since all the power is routed through the started it was breaking the connection to power the rest of the truck. New starter fixed it right up.

Doubt it but just a thought. :dunno:

This may or may not help but certainly won't hurt.
Get a bottle of Deep Creep (Sea Foam in a spray can) at the truck pharmacy and with the engine running spray it in the throttle body till the engine dies, then spray some more. Go do something else for a while (17-29 minutes) and go fire it up.

Be advised I'll smoke like a steam engine for a few minutes.

You might even want to squirt it into the fuel line to make sure it goes threw the injectors.
That will help if it's a clogged injector

It acts like its either starving or flooding. And it starts right back up no issue what so ever..I've tried jumping the pump it made no difference. And I'm not sure I'll try setting up the gauge when I drive it.

Theres no way its flooding. It wouldnt start up "normally" after dying if it was flooding to the point of shut off.

I say chase down your neutral safety switch wiring possibly. Does that circuit interact with the fuel pump circuit at all? Its been a long time since Ive wrenched a square body but I would start at the only thing you're able to replicate.

When it dies, does it die like you just cut the key off or does it slowly die like starving for fuel? does it easily start back up? If it were mine, I would consider maybe jumpering the fuel pump relay and driving it to see if it still had the problem. Is there any way you can hookup your fuel pressure gauge where you can drive it and see it?

Do this!

Had a problem like that. It was the computer ground bolted on the back of the R head. Bolt came a little loose and it would run great then run for ****.

i had an 88 pontiac that idled like crap, always wanted to die when you took off. spent about 800 on it including a new carb. then one day it started leaking coolant above the #1 cyclinder. replaced the intake gasket and now it runs great. i even tried the spraying of carb cleaner around the intake to find leaks
