My downshift cable has never been hooked for the last few years. How much difference does this make? I was just thinking about replacing, but not sure if I need it.
Ummm, I doubt anyone is going to claim you don't need a tv..
I'm gonna have to assume this is a T350 transplanted... no 700r4 is going to run decent, let alone survive without a tv cable....
Did you read the link? All the info you'll need is on that site. Unless it's not the TV cable you are talking about. Its a 700R4 and has never been hooked up since 1995... then again I have gone through 2 trannies and just had this one rebuilt with all as much allison tranny parts possible. I will tell you this.. when no downshift cable hooked my truck tops out at 120 and runs damn strong at all speeds

This whole thread makes no sense.. LMC's description of a tv cable as a detent cable is very inaccurate... It controls line fluid pressure in the trans and is critical, unlike a detent cable on a 350.. It does much more than "it engages the passing gear when pedal is depressed"....
Your trans will nuke in short order without this hooked up.. Thus maybe why you've gone thru 2 transmissions..
spend an hr and read thru that link and this one http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php
