i got my truck with a detroit in it,i think their is to much slop in the pinion. with the drive shaft off,and the wheels on the ground,i can move the pinion from the 12 clock to almost 3 clock is this ok?

Sounds about right. It is called dynamic backlash.

Yep, that is normal. You will also feel it when driving. When you go from drive to coast, you may feel a slight clunk....all normal quirks about the Detroit.
