So I had my detroit locker, the one that replaces the spiders in my last 14 bolt that had the bearings go on hiway and cooked my rear axle. I pulled the locker before I junked the axle.
My first question is that if I can compress the springs by hand should I replace them or will they be okay?
Is the metal in the locker its self going to be strong still? The axle got d*mn hot and I want to make sure it doesn't shred the gears.

Thanks, cody.

When we had my detroit out of my axle to swap the gears, we had to take apart the carrier. I was able to keep the detroit closed very easily by applying pressure with my hand. So, I suspect your springs are fine if you can compress them by hand.

As to the other question: I don't know. Does the detroit show any discoloring due to temperature? I suspect you're fine to use it.

I'm quite certain that you didn't get it hot enough to change the phase of the metal in the locker. Furthermore, the real strength of the ratcheting mechanism comes from the effective carbon case depth... Again not hot enough to change molecular structure.

All this to say, run it and enjoy! The strength is the same as however it came out of the furnace from the factory :thumb:
