What's the difference between a detroit locker and a detroit truetrac? I assume the locker is just that but the truetrac, is that a limited slip? Also just got my ff14bolt back 4:56gears and detroit locker. I took the cover off and it looks the same to me. I know how to check the ratio but how bout the locker?

check and see if you can see the spider gears in the little holes that are in the carrier, if you see smooth shiny metal there is a detroit in there.

A truetrac is a limited slip and a no slip is a locker. Pick one rear tire up off the ground with 1 tire on the ground. Put the truck in neutral (not running) and spin the tire in the air. If it spins with force then it is a limited slip. If it locks up and wont spin it is a locker.

A tight limited slip may not slip either but even then it will usually slip. A lockered axle may spin for a little bit then lockup and will stop spinning. Detroits lockers, especially in 14bff can have a decent amount of freespin before they lock together.
