100% of people cant be wrong :D

seriously, ive heard guys with cars running the loc-rite ok, but no where near the strength of the detroit from what i understand. For a car, like a third gen camaro, with a 7.625in 10 bolt, and less than 400hp, the loc rite would be fine. above that, id go detroit. In a truck, when lockup is key, and strength is a matter of making it out and being stuck 20 miles out in the mud in the woods, the money spent on the detroit is worth the peice of mind.

I will wind up dropping the coin on a detroit for my D70HD. still debating putting one in my front D60.

Don't forget that the 14 bolt detroit fits inside the stock carrier just like most lock-rites.

I voted Detroit though.

Yeah which makes me wonder if theres really a difference. I know the lockrite is f'ing loud though. My friends constantly think my rear is exploding.

ahhh sweetk30 is da MAN

thats why i didnt flinch too bad when i was told both my axles were open. guess theyre just gonna get some detroits at some point :)

when i bought my rear it was gov locked with 3.73. When i re geared to 4.56 i made sure and put in an open carrier for that very reason. Now i so far its looking like the detroit but does anyone have any pictures to compare the 2?

go up to my post and click the link full info and pics on detroits and stuff for 14ff axles. :doah:

Personally in this case I say go with the Detroit. Love mine.

The Lock Right is a good product but I wouldn't use it under the rear of a fullsize, V8 powered truck with big tires that's planning on wheeling. They work great in other 4x4 applications but our trucks are just asking for trouble with them in the rear.

Sure about that? Did someone swap an open rear end under you M1009? All the M1009's came with the Gov-Bomb/Grenade Lock in the rear.

SweetK30, Thanks for the link. Those are great pics. So what is the deal with the bolt in the detroit. Do you have to build it then stick it in? I thought it was an open box insert piece then off you go. Anyway. That has definatly made up my mind. Detroit it is. I will be ordering on next paycheck. Cant wait to have all 4 wheels pulling. :saweet:

remove carrier. pop off ring gear. split carrier and drop out all spiders and washers. drop in detroit. bolt carrier back together and ring gear back on. then remove bolt that hold unit together or you will not be able to get it together.

Gotcha, knew you were looking at getting one but didn't know you had one.

i bought the wrong size washers and just compressed the springs somebow and threaded on the ring gear bolts. geez i cant even remember how i did that. must have been a pain in the ass.
