i'm a noob on diffs and lockers so i just popped open my 14b and counted the ring gear teeth... counted 41 so i'm assuming that it has 4.10 ratio but does an open diff look like this ? it has 4 of those holes around it and it looks like a pin is in each
pretty sure thats no detroit judging from sales pics for detroits

It's open, you can see the spider gears in the little windows. I'm pretty sure that's right. So go ahead and add a Detroit to the budget.

Well i'm pretty sure thats no detroit and you say it looks open.. hope so cause that means adding a detroit will be easier right ? since i dont have to find a new carrier.

new stuff makes me soo giddy!! not in a gay way tho :D:D

Yeah, spider gears mean it's open I'm almost positive, and you can count the number of bolts between the big pin things you mentioned... just can't recall the number for open and/or gov lock.

And like you said, since it's open you won't have to get a new carrier.

Found it finally!

Yep it is open so a detroit would drop right in. The ratio could be 4.1 or 3.73 depending on the pinion gear count. The ratio is usually stamped in the ring gear itself. If you see 41-10 it is 4.1 or 41-11 is 3.73.

not seeing it stamped anywhere on the ring gear, any other way to count the pinion teeth other then pulling the pinion ? i cant really see in there to check

Ok found a stamp on the end of the pinion reads as..

3977337 10 41 GM 11 15

the 10 and the 41 means it should be 4.10, but i also see the #11 in there also

14BFF Open Diff. I'd keep your options open regarding a lockright if interested. Saw one NIB go for $70 on ebay a few weeks ago. I picked mine up for <$200. It has worked flawlessly with 33's on my BBC
