I've read about this a bit and I think it's okay, but my new-to-me 14bff with Detroit is in, and with the "shift kit" in my TH400 I'm getting a major clunk going from forward to reverse (or the other way). This is normal, right? I understand the Detoits introduce driveline lash that is independent of any issues with the gear setup. Is there anything easy I can do to make sure all is well?

If you really want to check.....pull your driveshaft off and check the joints. Pull the diff cover off and check backlash to make sure the axle's PO didn't screw anything up.

But really, checking the axle should be done no mater what, since you're introducing a new USED item to your truck without any previous history knowledge.

You should try a Detroit with a manual tranny...

First you get locker steer with every shift, then when it does load up and release the bang is severe enough that you can't help check the rearview for parts laying on the ground. Mine would do that about once a year, maybe a little more. Took some pretty exact circumstances to make it happen though.
