so i bought 5.13s and a detroit to put in my 14bff,and i am also doing a 465 swap down the road in a couple months,i never went in a short wheelbased 465 driven truck('81 shortbox) until last night, his detroit is kinda old, and when we turned sharp at lower speeds, sometimes it would make the truck lurch back and forth from locking and unlocking.. it kinda of worried me,i know nothing would break, but the lurching seems like it would be anoyying in my own truck. so can i have some feedback on detroits vs mini spools? i drive my k5 on the road a lot also.

With a manual tranny, your going to get more of that unlocking and locking. but it isnt that big of a deal.

Atleast with a detroit, it will be unlocked when there is no power going to it, so coasting through a turn, you wont be dragging a tire, as with a spool, you will always be dragging a tire.

I kinda like the sound it makes when it locks, and the funny looks you get.

ya,i think ill put my detroit in seeing that i have it already, and if i dont like it, switch to a mini spool

There are ways to minimize that, but it takes some planning basically you have to coast through every corner you take. I have driven several blazers with 4 spds and a Detroit in the rear and barely noticed the Detroit

o ok,i figured i might have to drive it a certain way to keep it "smooth". i do that with the dieing 700 i have now:rolleyes: thanks for the input

Don't run a spool. My jimmy came with one and IMO it is better to run an open axle than a spool.
