I decided I'm going to start using Deutsch connectors. Anyone have recommendations for where they prefer to get them from? What about the crimpers? I'm going to use solid connectors, and the "proper" crimper is $300. Found another for $200 that sounds alright. There are cheapo ones out there, but their reviews say they don't work on 12ga stuff, and I need that for what I'm doing.

Any other general advice? I've never used them before, but I really like the idea of being able to make real professional looking stuff.

I converted to using metri-pack connectors. Because I could get the bodies at the junk yard for next to free.

I buy all my electrical stuff from Delcity.net. Really quality stuff there with tons of selection. They will have your bodies and pins along with 4-1 glued heat shrink and all that Jazz.

as for a crimper, I have a ProsKit CrimPro crimper frame. It cost about $30 has replaceable crimp dies that so you can just buy what you need. I have dies for spark plug wires, standard crimp terminals, metripack/weatherpack and so on. They may have a Deutsch die set, i have never looked.

Let us know what you find. I spent very little looking at the Deutsch connectors, but they held some promise as it looked to me like you could get some connector styles and sizes you cant in the Aptiv (Delphi, AC Delco) line.

So far I've stuck with metri and weather-pack, because it's very easy to find all the part numbers, catalogs, and tools, plus they are relatively inexpensive. I don't have the time for wrecking yards anymore, but they are definitely a viable source for connectors. It took too much time for me to find the info I needed for Deutsch, so I gave up.
