Replace the pump, or pull the smoking, leaking assed engine for a rebuild. I hate this website.......

Diagnosing power steering problem.

Well, both my trucks have power steering issues. The Chalet was getting hard to turn and making some kind of bearing going out/metal screeching noise. I put a new pump and hoses on it, bled it and it worked better yesterday. Today its making the screeching noise again.
The 72 Jimmy has been getting harder to turn for a while, but it makes more of a groaning noise.
So question is, what kind of different noises do the pump and gearbox make when going out?

Tighten the belt and it should be good.

There should only be one belt on the P/S pump. If there are two belts and one goes elsewhere as well then that's your problem.
My bad, I meant both trucks. Got a prybar on the chalet's ps pump to tighten it and works like a champ now. Guess I'll try the same thing on my Jimmy.

Put a Cummins in it... At least then, when it squeels, you will have so much money invested you couldnt afford to get rid of it!
