Diagnostic Scan Reading

@anwat most certainly agree that I pretty much got the comp/engine part cleared up. As I said before I am going to purchase an actual GM IAC because I believe it is a touch out and is not working properly. I pulled the PROM and it appears unmolested as the rest of the vehicle. I have a thorough history and multiple first hand information as well. I have assumed it coincidence that the trans issue manifested itself as I was correcting other mechanical problems. Maybe the other problems were enough to mask the issue. Just spit balling. Always appreciate the input.

Most of the remaining symptoms seem related to the TCC/OD in the trans. The PROM can control the speed at which your clutch will lock up, but if it's a factory chip, then that should be fine...I think maybe it's the TCC that's going out. I'm not very well versed in the auto trans area, but after reading back over your posts, it seems that's the common link between everything. I'm sure there's some sort of functional testing you could do with the truck to determine the status of the TCC. It may help to download Winaldl and try running that to get some specific voltages on the IAC...it all depends on what program you feel most comfortable with. To me the winaldl is much simpler to understand...but they are all going to give the same info in the end.

I hadn't thought of it before, but can you "override" TCC through the ALDL connector? Most likely grounding that pin?

For some reason I can't get to this link (apparently due to my location) but from what I can see via google images, appears to show the ALDL connector with a TCC pin, maybe they talk about it...perhaps if you could force it on (or off) you'd be able to better isolate the TCC to see if its the problem or not. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjIh4HQgK_tAhU-AGMBHU8vAPUQFjAAegQIDxAC&url=https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/tcc-test-point.15809/&usg=AOvVaw1M8ZBGednHiOhKS7Rqae8W

tcc.JPG It worked for me, and thanks, I learned something new. Hopefully you'll be able to read the pic above It's the meat and potatoes of the thread Once again, probably comes down to a bad ground. I'd start with the ground that comes from the ECM, making sure it's sufficient, then make sure the trans plug is good while you jiggle the wires around.

Replaced the IAC and installed new (reman) fuel injectors. Purrs now and the shift points are better. Think I will reset the kickdown cable since it doesnt seem to drop down correctly. TQ lock-up still an issue.

Good news! With that 700 trans, remember everything is controlled by that TV cable...if it's a little off, nothing will work right and you're just asking for early failure. That TV cable should start to move exactly when the throttle cable starts to move, no slack. There's a good writeup on how to set the cable correctly on Bowtie Overdrives site. Get that dialed in and then we can figure out the lockup issue. I'm also glad to see someone else takes a while to get things done...sometimes I feel bad about how long it takes me to fix things on my truck...life does get in the way sometimes! Some guys on here are posting up a question one day and the next day they've torn the engine down and are replacing camshafts.

Is the TC not locking at all, or slipping, or what? Using that info above, you should be able to force lockup, or prevent lockup and see if either solves your issue.

I hear you....I wish I had half as much time driving my truck as I do under it! Seems half my time is putting away my tools and the other half is getting them back out when I have time to do something. At least neither of us has to deal with the cold...I see these poor guys up north with the heaters in the garage and snow on everything. Not for me. I like the snow, but not if I'm working on the truck!

Forget about North, look east, south east is getting pounded

Hey Fellas! Since last post...starter is good. Silly mistake after setting the timing and tightening the clamp after I picked this thing up, I failed to notice that PO didnt have the clamp on the distributor. Reset time timing and positioned clamp securely. After changing the battery which was manufactured in '17 the alternator went out. This is where it gets interesting...you know that shudder we have been discussing? Gone. Completely. Driving in O/D at low RPM, which would rattle your teeth, you can barely tell the truck is running. Anyone else ever hear of this happening? Being in aviation a fault like this is understandable. Having low or improper voltage will cause faults in aircraft systems. Didnt even think about it for a vehicle. Improper voltage to the computer and sensors that use voltage reference will give faulty inputs. Honest it is like driving a different vehicle.

Garbage in, garbage out. Sort of like the federal government right now.... Plus now all the other stuff is new and tuned correctly, so it should be running nice. I spent a while chasing gremlins caused by low voltage to the ECM myself...I only was able to cure it by running a wire directly from the battery to the ECM. Sad thing was, for about 6 months I was looking at the "low battery voltage" flag on every log I ran, but ignoring it because it wasn't what I was looking for.
Glad it's running right, now go enjoy it!

Good to here. Yes as I just catching up on this thread I was thinking maybe a current issue to the TCC solenoid. Alternator could defiantly cause this. do you have a 10si or cs130 alt?

I stayed with the SI since it was the only one they had in stock at the time. I will eventually upgrade.

Purrrrrrrs like a kitten. I dont recall a "low batt voltage" but as you said I was looking at other things.

personally not a huge fan of the cs, I have seen them seize and lock up tbi motor, stall them out while driving, and or keep them from cranking. Cs seem to have a higher failure rate then the SI. Don't be in hurry to "upgrade"
