I was on the phone last week with AutoWorld in Montana (They specialize in Cummins swaps) and was inquiring about what i needed to put a tach in my truck. They asked me if I had a tach now, and I said no. So they priced 2 different kits. One was for a factory gas tach and one was for a factory diesel tach. Since my truck is an 89 I was sure that they were referring to the wrong body style. So I kindly corrected them and explained that it was the 73-87 body style. They promptly replied back that their 73 had a cummins swapped in it in 89, and they have a GM diesel tach in it. (Obviously not the stock gauge as the 6.2 didnt come out til 82. ) Anyhow, has anybody ever seen a tach in a 6.2 truck? I'd really love to get my hands on one of them if i could find one for sale.

The diesel tach was fed by the alternator. It must have had math built in to divide the 3 phases and divide out the ratio of crank to alternator pulley diameter. So swapping it to another engine must cause error. I don't know if they were ever offered in light duty trucks, though.

Thanks for the links. A 4k tach with the tiny fuel gauge and a dual needle air pressure gauge would be perfect!!!

Thats what I am going to put in my crew cab.

The only thing you lose is the fasten seat belts warning lamp and I think the brake warning lamp.

Man I don't remember ever seeing those,...do want!!

Note that mine is kind of a hybrid, I mixed and matched a bit.

The speedo in mine is the normal speedo, as are the smaller gauges, except for the lower left which is the twin needle air pressure gauge, the tach is obviously from the c-60
