I just picked up a 85 blazer and was wondering whether or not any came from the factory with tachs? if not, are there any year gage clusters with tachs that will work?

thanks

Supposedly factory tachs went out in 81 or 82, and those styles are hard to find. Everytime I go to a junkyard I look for them, and only have ever had 1. I had 8 of the 70s style. They will work, the font is the only thing that is different. Get an overlay and other than the color nobody will know.

The 80's C60's had factory tachs but aren't exactly plentiful--and the speedometer cable on thde larger series may be the "old" style screw on one rather than the clip on style too, another bummer..

Thanks for the information. I notice you have a 305 in one of your vehicles. I have a 305 in my blazer. I was thinking of swaping out for a 350 tbi engine that I have but when I tuned it up it seemed to run pretty good but was low on power- just based on its rating. I would hate to swap it out if I could at least get the performance of the 350tbi out of it for less than a grand. How does yours run and did you do anything to increase its performance

My 79 C10 had a 305 (sold it about 3 years ago though),I got the 305 from an '86 G10 van...I ditched the computer distributor that had the EST module with 5 pins on it and no vacuum advance for an older HEI with a vacuum advance, and put an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb on it using an adapter to the stock Q-jet manifold..no other real mods,I think a 500 CFM carb would have been better,it seemed to smother it when I florred it..never did play with the jetting..

It was no ball of fire,it only had 145 HP stock, but it was a big improvement over the 250 six it had before...I liked the fact it got 18 mpg most of the time and still had decenmt acceleration..

A 305 can be built up to get more HP with a better cam,intake,carb,etc--but it'll never be a 350 either, though it can be improved a lot..If I remember right a 305 has the same stroke as a 350,but smaller bore..like they say, there's no replacement for displacement..but a 305 will pull better at low RPM than a 283,307 or 327 will, those are shirter stroke high revving engines..

but once a 302 or 327 grabs pavement shes gone :D

There are a couple mid 80s tach clusters on ebay right now. You can tell them apart from the 70s clusters easily.
