well, we did the annual christmas tree run again this year. last year the weather was terrible and we didn't get very far before everyone started getting stuck, and the tree selection sucked. so we bought a tree this year.

well, saturday was absolutely beautiful and we ran about 40 miles of trail. it's a bummer we bought a tree, because we ended up in this forest that had incredible trees... :) had to break our own trail thru a couple feet of snow the whole ride. i was one of only 2 fullsize rigs, and we traded off breaking trail for everyone else. it was a real good time. no serious problems - only prob. was that one jeep had a problem with the linkage to her atlas and so we were stuck for a while on the trail waiting to have that all fixed up. no biggie tho.

pics!!

this is mt. hood as we arrived on the trail:

this was the final destination of our trip - we could have gone farther, but some wanted to get out of the snow not much after dark... didn't quite work out that way tho! :D

sorry didn't have more pics of actual wheeling, but my lady didn't come along on this trip and there wouldn't have been many good action shots anyway; just plowing thru the snow!

great time tho!! one of the best trips i've taken. i love trips with great weather and killer scenery mixed with some difficult wheelin'! :wink1:

Nice pics as usual...
That last pic is amazing... so it held the shutter open long enough to absorb that much light or did you lighten it up on the computer? Just sittin' on the truck or did you bring a tri-pod? Every time I've tried to do stuff like that they turn out blurry b/c I can't hold still long enough while the shutter is open...:)

Nice Pix Colby. I have enjoyed all of your pix from wheeling out that way.

How does your Blazer do in the snow? What size are the MTRs? They look nice and narrow which I like in the snow. I am leaning towards a 255/85 BFG (33.5 x 10) but may like something a little taller... As long as they don't get to fat.

thoses are amazing... havent seen shots like that in a while... wish i could have gone. =\

i used a tri pod and the camera just absorbed all the light to create that image. i haven't used the computer to mess with any of these photos. next time you try to do that, try setting the camera down on something. before i had the tri-pod, i would set it on the bed rail of the truck or on a set of rocks or... you get the idea. :)

my blazer does outstanding in the snow. i think it does significantly better than alot of other rigs i've been with in the snow. i think mt/r's are GREAT in the snow and rocks, but they don't self clean very well when you get into the clay we've got up here in the northwest. these are 35's, 12.5" wide.

it wasn't a trail, per-say. it was forest service roads that aren't maintained in the snow. if you're familiar with the area, you cruise on up to zig zag, oregon and then head out on east lolo pass. at the peak of the pass, you hang a right onto what i believe is forest service route 1811. if you follow it, you can make a gigantic loop. we went off the loop in a place or two, but for the most part stayed on it. :D

thanks for all the compliments on the pics, :thumb:

I miss the Portland scenery, the mountains in CO are spectacular but there are just more trees in Oregon. I loved it there, cant wait to visit next year!
