I have a quick question for anybody out there. I've got an 81 k10 sub and this weekend I was taking out the rear leaf springs (huge pain in the ass). I pulled the axle out of the way. But instead of taking the drum brake apart to unhook the parking break cable I just ground off the 2 rivets holding the braket that holds the cable hard line on both sides. Then after I did that I noticed that the rivets also go through the spring hanger and help hold it to the frame!!!! Did I f$%k up or what??? Because I was going to ditch the parking brake because I'm puting in a 14blt. Do I need to weld the spring hanger along the edge where the 2 rivets used to be or drill them out and blot them or is it no big deal. Any help would be great.

When you do a shackle flip you grind off the rivets and replace them with bolts, I dont see why that would be any different. Just drill them out and replace them with grade 8 bolts and move on. Thats just my opinion.

if you ground the entire head of the rivet off you should be able to use a hammer and punch and push out the rest.

Your part way to the shackle flip. Why not order it, grind the rest off and install it and call it "planned".

x5 or 6 on the grade 8 though.
