hickey blazer 001.JPG hickey blazer 002.JPG hickey blazer 003.JPG hickey blazer 004.JPG I just bought this truck a couple of months ago. I ran across a few pictures of the 1969 Hickey Blazer and it looks very similar (same weird spot light by rear view mirror). The trucks suspension is beefy, roll cage integrated, racing harnesses, very high performance-I was told 327 corvette motor. It was ordered from factory without windows and the door panels reflect with no holes for crank or armrests.
I only took a few pics just to show my friend so they arent the greatest. Maybe somebody out there has some additional pics or info on the Hickey Blazer so I know what I've got before I start tearing it up and do something I might later regret. Thanks, Michele

Those look like the hickey fuel tanks. Cage also looks very similar.

Sure looks like it when comparing your pics to these:

You could pic up one of those hot rodder august 1969 magazines off ebay to get a better look.

How do the axles look? Are they similar to the cover pic?
Dead on including front axle truss. Front discs. The only thing changed is a front chrome bumper and grill guard put on. also somebody put larger pieces of plexi for windshield. I will be removing all that stuff. Thanks for the info

Lots of info here:

The guy (Ron Johnson) turned out to be a total dirtbag, but karma finally caught up to him.... the photos in that thread might help you figure out what you've got.

FWIW: The fuel tanks you've got don't look like Hickey units, unless someone completely screwed up the installation. They are supposed to be mounted on the wheel tubs facing the OTHER way (torward the rear).

Post up more photos of the details when you get a chance. :waytogo:

In the link to the magazine I posted the tanks are mounted that way too. I wonder if that was to move weight forward for balance while racing? The filler tubes on them don't look like they are in the magazine pics though, so some modifications have since been made after Aug 1969 :wink1:

The tank fillers are interchangeable, it's just a matter of 6 or 8 screws. I'm pretty sure the tanks can be mounted either in the front or the back. I imagine it is pretty important to keep the majority of the weight between the axles. A small detail I noticed is in a couple of pics there is a bungee chord from a hook on hood below bow tie to the grill.......the bungee 'cord' part is gone but the hooks remain hooked to grill. The fog lamps are gone but the wires are dangling. When I go back north where truck is stored I will take pics of suspension and undercarriage. It looks all factory done modifications with the big rivets etc. thanks for the input.

I noticed the tanks were reversed in that other article vs. the source photos I'd seen.... Could have been designed to work either way.

Anyway.... Definitely take closeup photos of the details like filler necks, rollcage mounting points, hood hooks, etc. those will really help identify factory-type mods vs "enthusiast" mods! ;)

Might be something build with his parts or one of his projects, not the one in the magazine. Right side firewall has too much stuff on it.
