Did I smoke my new R4 compressor??
So I was charging the A/C after replacing the compressor & other components, and while the second can of freon was being added a leak began at the hose & needle valve at the can. I had walked away so it had leaked there for a good 3-5 seconds. I close the valves on the gauges & the can, reset the fittings and open valves back up and continue on. I finish charging the system, totaling (with loss) 44-48 oz, but now the compressor won't get below 40psi on the low side and doesn't cycle. I have to believe the non cycling is because the low side pressure never get low enough to for the pressure switch. And of course temps at the vent never get below 50 degrees.
Did I kill the reed valves in the compressor??

Pulled a vacuum for close to an hour, and it held for another hour. Never even hooked up the high side...
No purge. Just moved the yellow hose from the vacuum pump to the can.
I have a recovery machine and bottle, so I'll evacuate the freon tomorrow and try again I guess.

44-48oz of r134 sounds like to much. do you have a high side reading. Let every thing cool down put you low side gauge on, and see what it reads. On a normal charge system you should have the same psi as the ambient temperature , = or - 5 psi. So if it's 80* out you should see 80 psi, if it says 90 100 or more you are over charged. if it says 60 your low.
you need @70% of r12 charge for R134

The pressure switch at the dryer may have an adjuster screw in the it where the pigtail goes...

Here's a pressure chart....

This is as I bought it. It doesn't work. When I get the motor and tranny in I'll fix it. Looks like it's been converted...

Before suckin the freon out, low 30s psi on the suction side & only 75-100 psi on the high side, on a humid 70 degree morning. I didn’t have a lot of time so I only ran it for a few minutes & evacuated the system.
I probably jumped the gun starting this post. I knew I wouldn’t time to stay on the ac, but I panicked a little and had to ask. Hoping to be back on it in a week or two.
I seem to remember that 3.25lbs of R12 was the appropriate amount. My tag is a nice blank sticker now.
