We went and did some winter wheeling at Rausch Creek today. We had a blast in the 30+ degree weather. We had a XJ with us and he popped a front shaft and it took both ball joints out too. We got him out to his trailer with not much drama but a little damage to the Blazer. :D Kinda matches all the damage from the last year or so of really hammering it. All the pics are in the link but here are a few teasers.

The driver fender looked good in this pic. Well, it didn't quite look that good at the end of the day.

I'm not sure on how far I towed him like this but I would guess close to 2 miles. Unfortunately not all of it was on nice smooth trails. Funny thing is we just got off a black rated trail and we turned to go down this trail to the next one we wanted to run and that is where it broke. If it would have broke on the trail it would have been a real ugly recovery.

Like I said the rest are in the link.

wow i was about to say cool, but murpy's law when it comes to wheelin in slick conditions, rough, not worth the wheelin trip was it:doah:

I counted at least 5 "Badges of Honor". I would say it was well worth it. Every dent my K5 gets is another trail story to tell.

Sheet metal modification begins! :D Looks like fun, bummer bout the damage to a clean rig though. Ahh hell ya had fun right?

It's worth it everytime. My K5 is not as clean as it appears and there isn't a straight panel on it except maybe the hood. Even the roof has dents in it. It's going under the knife soon so this was the last run in it's current form.

just a question/ suggestion....

why didn't ya'll chain the XJ to the rear bumper of the chevy...drop the weight on it and pull the front tires on the XJ ??

may have saved some damage...

Because we didn't have any chains and even if we did what we had to tow it through would have been a pain. I knew I was going to take some damage in doing it the way we did but I really didn't care. All the damaged area is getting hacked off anyway.

Im hoping to get some winter wheeling it tommorrow with some video too I hope.

8 - 12 inchs of snow with 35-45 mph winds, bring it on!

hindsight is 20/20; but if you had put a spare or taken one of the cherokee tires and run it through the cable to act as a buffer, you might have not had as much damage.
i guess it doesn't matter if you are chopping it up :D

and this is why I dont like tube bumpers. they look cooler 'n' hell, but man they sure dont take much serious abuse.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. The bumper held up just fine and both my front and back bumper have taken some serious abuse. The frame will bend before the bumpers do.

I think he is referring to this:

Although it appears damaged its just the paint/coating on it.

I Personally love Tubes on bumpers:D
