Did the 73-97 chevy trucks come stock w/ underhood lamps?

Somewhere in the 80’s they were available but I believe it was an option not standard. My 91 Blazer had one.

Optional. The earlier would have been the basic light that turned on with the hood opening. The later would be the type that mounted above the heater box and turned on with it's own switch. Added bonus the light was on a reel and has about 5 feet of wire to pull the light where you need it. I think those came in around 88 and were also available on the GMT400 trucks after the squares ended in 91.

That's the kind my 84 had.

I have the one pictured on my '82 GMC,but I put it there--came off a late 90's truck with the new cab style..it's handy, but every time I open the hood I find the lamp dangling by the wire a few inches away from the reel--the little plastic tab doesn't hold it securely enough..

The 89 CCSB I built had one. I think I took it off and put it somewhere lol....I thought it was a later option....

I love those things! Both burbs I had had one. My 89’ crewcab doesn’t

My '90 K5 came with the below. It was a factory 6.2 diesel so it's mounted inside the engine compartment on the driver's side inner fender. Really nifty in my opinion and would be worthwhile to grab some out of a junkyard and mount in other locations. Mine still works (at least last time I used it) after all these years and have never even replaced the bulb.

Would you have a pic on how it is mounted?
