Did these come from the factory with marker lights?

I've seen more than one old tailgate with these marker lights ( I assume they're markers).

I'm thinking maybe they were stock on 1 ton trucks. Maybe they were ordered this way for commercial trucks sold by the dozens to utilities or large companies? Or maybe it was added by the owners because it was a common upgrade at the time?

Those look like trailer reflection lights. They would have to have power inside the gate if they were lights

That's a good point. They do look like reflectors. The mounting studs look like they're installed from the inside of the tailgate sheetmetal.

I like that tailgate, I'd love to have it hanging on the wall in my shop. Prices are nuts though. It's cheaper to buy a repro and add your own patina.
