Did you guys hear about this?

Kind of OT here but its close to this theme. A buddy was in South ST Paul Peterbilt a couple of days ago and got to see a new Pete with the 07 Cat engine. The mechanics think it will take twice as long to do a water pump with all the extra plumbing, compared to the 06 model. Progress is $900 vs $450. for labor:doah: but the best is the stovepipe around the exhaust stack.

Get this, the exhaust is estimated to run about 1200 degrees out the stack so a "heatshield" or stove pipe is installed over the 5 inch exhuast pipe to keep from burning the paint off the side of the truck. TMC (the company that ordered these) set the exhaust height just above the sleeper. So the dealer want them to pay to have the exhaust pipe raised to keep from burning the paint off the roof.

With that high of an exhaust temp I wonder how many AC and fire problems will happen this summer....glad my truck is too old.

It'll be around 2027 before I could afford a 2007 truck!..my "antique" 1982 K20 was the only diesel truck I could buy on my budget!..by the time I ever get a "new" truck, it'll be an antique too!..:doah:

If China and all the other "third world" countries will continue to belch out unchecked emissions, why do our EPA officials think WE are going to "clean up the world" by restricting everything WE use as fuels??..I think it's retarted for one country (The USA),to be so anal about pollution, when the rest of the world does not give a rats butt !..your yard still stinks when your neighbors septic tank overflows,no matter how clean you keep your property!......

Well I was in Europe in 93 and they were introducing the ULSD then.
5 years ago MOTOR TREND wanted to test a diesl VW, the dealership had to bring the proper diesel fuel from europe so they can test it because the high sulfur in our fuel here would have killed the filters.
We are not leading in that department.
The difference is, in europe, the diesel fuel is priced half of the gasoline so that people would use it.
90% of the cars/trucks in europe use diesel because of this, and they have less polution, because they developped good filtration systems and good clean engines, and the efficency of the diesel means less burned fuel less polutants.
I still think EPA is screwing us and the fuel manufacturers bitch but in the end put all the expenses on us.
No incentives to go clean, just have to.
