I was wondering if the Diesel and gasoline tanks were the same? the reason I am asking is that my tank is in bad shape and Coleman surplus has new Diesel tanks for $25. Would the sending unit from a gas tank fit in the diesel one?

yeah, they are identical, except the gas ones may have an additional return/vapor line... as long as we're talking about CARBed trucks, TBI is different

Can't remember if the Coleman's ones are the 25 gallon or the 31 though -- they're for CUCV, duh ;)

Depending on year, the tanks generally interchange -- as said, the 87-91 fuel injection ones have extra baffles or something.

Note that if you're reusing your sending unit you have to get the same size tank, as otherwise you'll need to replace the sender.

The LMC catalog is great for this sort of thing; pick your year truck and tank size, write down the part #, then check for an '85 diesel, that being a CUCV, and see if the part # is the same.

Oh, note that CUCV tanks may have a larger filler tube, so you may have some creative plumbing.

Thanks for all the info. I will pick up the tank from Colemans.

you can, you just have to drain it, then rinse it (and the lines) with diesel... which generated about 3 gallons of contaminated diesel (cleaning fluid), in my case
