I found a 85 diesel k5 w/206k miles... owner says he has cleaned the injectors and heads, flushed all fluids, transmission transfer case and rear axle rebuilt, brand new suspension components, banks sidewinder turbo kit... and a few other details...says it gets 20-26mpg and has 235 hp and 470 lbft body looks to be in excellent condition ..... what would you pay?

first i'd ask him if he had an kinda proof he went through it all. maybe receipts and that would be a start. i'd say $3,000 if it was a good running rig and everything worked. that's just my opinion though

another thing to look at is why he flushed everything. only time i actually see anyone do that is if it's went through mud or water but maybe he just takes good care of the thing

Those numbers may be a bit ambitious. Here's Banks own test numbers on a 6.2. I'm not saying he couldn't have done other things to it, but...

so longbedder what would you pay for a strong running diesel in a nice blazer?

i wouldnt pay that much unless its a 6.5

do you have any pics or a better description?

and has 235 hp and 470 lbft

Not bloody likely unless he's done some pretty extreme engine mods.........:deal:

As far as the money goes, if the truck is in really good shape and rust-free, I don't think that $4800 is too far out of the ballpark. Is it still sitting on the factory 10 bolts? Is it a Silverado? We need more info to offer an educated opinion.

700r4 (hd), 3.42 gears 208....new batteries and alternator...fixed up interior... thats all i got for now

don't see any molding on it so my best guess would be not a silverado looks like its on 33;s don't know the bolt

If its rust free and clean id say $4000 is average. Market dictates though, $4800 isnt obscene, although not a really great deal in my eyes.

I think the HP/Torque numbers are inflated as others have mentioned, but like everyone else unless he has paperwork to back it up those numbers are fiction. "My Firebird has 800 hp at the wheels!" yeah, right...
Also inflated is the fuel mileage i think. You can expect to exceed 20 mpg with proper (stock sized) tires though, but 26 is a bit much. Possible spedometer error could account for the difference.

I paid $3500 for my bone stock yet really clean 83 with a 6.2, it had a small amount of rust around the door sills but i felt i got a good deal considering the area i live in. Here in my neck of the woods people will buy anything "diesel" for outrageous prices because of the bio-diesel craze. I also bought mine when gas prices were spiraling upwards, so that didnt help.

Well, as near as I can tell from what you've posted, it's an unmodified '85 diesel blazer (with the exception of the Banks kit) with a little over 200k on it. The guy selling it is giving you far-fetched numbers.

You're in Texas - I'm not sure what part, but you can't be too far from other K5's with decent bodies.

Now, back to your original question: "What would you pay?"
If it were me, I'd look it over real close - if it's I want I'd offer him $3k. If he laughs at me, oh well. There's other Blazers out there. If he would work with me after that I'd negotiate until we're both happy.

In my opinion, anything made in the 80's or earlier has no defined (or blue book) value. It's value is whatever the two parties agree upon. Clear as mud?
