Is there an advantage in having a 6.2 Diesel in a blazer raither than a gas engine? How are the older Diesels?

The 6.2 has a bad rap, partially because people get them confused with the Olds 350 diesel, which was briefly used in Chevy trucks and is a really bastardized poor piece of engineering.

The 6.2 family isn't bad; a Cummins they're not, but for a light duty truck they get decent fuel economy.

I have on in my CUCV 'cuz it came that way; they are brutally simple, more so than a gasser, but parts tend to be more expensive 'cuz there's a lot
less of them. OTOH, with 3.08:1 gears I get fuel economy in the high teens.

Anything specific you're looking for?

They are reliable and get good mileage (some people with diesel K5's claim over 20 mpg).

They have less power than the gas motors, but not by a whole lot.

If power is your goal, the 6.2L diesel is a poor choice because you can't get a whole lot more power out of it.

Oh yeah, there's no modifying these guys, without throwing crazy money and hassle at them like a turbo, and even that, well ... they aren't horsepower motors, that's for sure :D

Im not looking for alot of power. I jst want a reliable truck to get me through the tough winters. The higher gas mileage is a plus to. There is a blazer I found online in Seattle. The guy says it has 200k on it and he says to make an offer.

One observation... find out if it's military or civvy. The military ones often have low miles but long hours of sitting ... which isn't bad, actually, as the motor can idle forever, but still will need love. The 6.2's like their oil changes and other PM's regularly more than a gas one.

Also, the civvy ones have AC and carpet and such creature comforts and the military ones don't.

And don't say "gas mileage" -- it's "fuel economy" :haha:

I love my 6.2. I get great fuel mileage and she has plenty of power. It is just a cruiser with plenty of off road umph and decent freeway speeds running 411's. It is not a mud or sand truck, mostly for playin on the rocks. I am puting a turbo on it and that is pretty cheep (250 invested and maybe another 100 or 200 to go) I say go for it.
