Hey,

I am new to the forum but have been running searches and looking over the internet for some time. I was wondering if anyone knows of a complete kit to replace the exhaust that will work with the stock hangers. It can be a factory replacement or aftermarket performance it just has to work. All of the shops by me charge mega bucks because I live in Taxachusetts so getting a shop to weld something up is not an option.

Thanks, Rich

Believe it or not the exhaust for a truck with a 350 will bolt right up. Manifold outlet location is the same as is the size. That should help expand your search options...

A universal dual exhaust kit for an '86 pick-up should get you all the pieces necessary too.

I have mine routed into one glass pack and it sounds awesome. There are some pictures of mine on page eleven of my buggy build thread. I would just build your own it's real easy and cheap, it can be done with a rental welding unit in 110 power from the home depot and the parts can be had from most any auto parts supplier.:woot:

Have you used that kit? Or has anyone else? I may be in the market for a new exhaust system soon for my M1009. Just want something thats a simple bolt in deal

Nope, costs too much to ship stuff like that to Alaska to be worth it. We are going to build a new exhaust for mine from NAPA parts. I got two 10' sections and a couple 90 and 45 degree elbows of 2.5" pipe for 190$.

I've never seen a catalitic converter on a 6.2 diesel!..must be a california emissions option??...

I made my own exhaust system for my plow trucks 6.2--used galvanized chain link fence pipe and two Thrush glass packs, and a couple of elbows from a parts stores muffler pipe repair bin that cost maybe 5 bucks each...got about 75 bucks into the whole dual system...it'll probably outlast the rest of the truck...
I must say a 6.2 sounds very cool with glass packs!..has that 50's rumble like a big block gas motor..

I see that Jegs sells a exhaust system for 73-87 GM's that doesn't come with mufflers for about 125 bucks,I think Hooker makes it ,or one of the other popular header companies, its designed to bolt up to stock manifolds...that would be one way to get a new exhaust cheap...

My only question is do those Dynomax/Thrush/Walker dual kits that are "header back" fit the stock manifolds?

I plan on redoing the exhaust on my 6.2 powered Blazer soon, and just wish that you could buy a kit that used 2.5" pipe instead of 2.25".

I will agree that 6.2's sound good with performance exhaust, and in general the sounds is very similiar to a big-block (just wish the power was the same).

I'd like to do a Y pipe and single exhaust but those dual kits are tempting. Easy to hang, no Y pipe/driveshaft drama, no having to figure out hangars...just take off the old and bolt on and go.

Thanks for all the quick responses. The truck is a blazer m1009. So it seems to be a consensus that exhaust for a small block will bolt right up. I'm surprised it doesn't seem to be listed that way by the big guys like summit. I would think they would want to reach as broad a market as possible.

I like the sound of the jegs kit without mufflers. I have run glasspacks on my Camaro and I know I can grab some from the parts shops for 20$ a piece.

I have heard that the glass packs just fill with diesel soot and then you basically have a straight pipe...

I heard that as well...but ran glass packs on Big Ugly with no ill results. I brought the subject up over on the 6.2-6.5 page's forum and they laughed at it. A lot of the big name diesel exhaust's use fancy glass packs anyway.

For the record there's a Maremont Cherry Bomb that will literally slide right onto the pipe in place of the factory mufflers provided you can get them off of the pipe.

The m1008 i had we ran dual flowmaster 40s on, one bend out behind each tire. Any good exhaust shop can make you the pipes to bolt to the manifolds out of 2.5 pretty cheap. The flowmasters made it sound different and run pretty good.

Regarding the glasspacks, as said above there are many diesel specific kits out there that use that style of muffler. This is probably one of those internet myths that started by somebody stating something like this could happen but there was no evidence to back it up. I personally ran a pair of glasspacks for several years and never noticed any issues.

On the cost of doing a custom setup it probably all depends on what the local shop will charge. I live in a small town and the only non-chain muffler shop quoted me $300 to install dual 2.5's, and that didn't include the mufflers which I already had. I wouldn't let either of the big chain places touch my vehicle after seeing there work.

I had a shop make a dual 3" exhaust for mine. I supplied Dynomax 6" round mufflers because they are straight through. I noticed a bump in power and it has a nice deep mellow sound, until you run it hard, then it really sounds badass.
