Hello I have a 2007 Chevy silverado 2500hd with the duramax diesel. It has 50,000km (about 30,000 miles). My question is about the turbo. is it normal for it to be spitting out oil out the outlet? I first noticed some oil right after the turbo outlet and took it in for warranty work, but the mechainics told me that it was normal, but is it really normal? and if so how much oil is normal? Today I started the swap to a banks intercooler and found oil in the intercooler. I took some pictures for you to see. should I be taking the truck back to the dealership to get it fixed?

P.S. I have written proof that they denied the turbo fix before I even purchased the intercooler, so they cant use it against me for warranty work

Heres the pictures of the oil

Thats not normal !!!!! That should be bone dry . Did you check the end play of the impeller ? It shouldn't have any movement . I think they didn't want to fool with it . When I see any oil it's turbo time .

What they said ^. A light haze right at the compressor outlet is all you should ever see, and that will partially be from blowby.

Speaking of blowby, an excessive amount will oil everything down as well. AFAIK a Duramax dumps it's crankcase vapors into the turbo inlet just like the older motors. An easy way to check is to pull off the hose at the turbo inlet and see if there is a bunch of oil leading into the turbo. If so, it could be the CDR system/excessive blowby. If not, it is the turbo.

Either way, that isn't normal and the dealer needs to fix it under warranty. With that much oil you could be heading into runaway territory :doah:
