I don't know much about diesels but I have a friend with a shop and he has a 6.5 diesel that I think he will give me. If not, I know I could buy it for dirt cheap. I would like to get a lwb or crew cab one day and put a diesel in it. I was wondering:

-would this engine be a better tow engine than a BBC?

- is it difficult to find turbo systems and put a TC on it?

- Should I even fool with it or just let him scrap it?

1. diesel are made for towing

2. both are easy to come by

3. if it's in good shape and the price is right go for it. They will go well over
300k easy if cared for.

There Good motors I have 2 a 93' and a 98' I will say this my 454 suburban has more pulling power and comparable mileage while towing

Your 454 has more power and comparable mileage to the 6.5 while towing? Wow that is surprising. Thanks for the replies.

That's fairly rare when somebody says thier 454 has better pulling power and comparable mileage to a 6.5l

It has WAY more power and gets only 3-4 MPG less pulling an Identical load (my yellow truck on my car trailer) which works out about the same when Diesel is nearly 30cents a gallon more than cheap gas here in my part of New Mexico. Now with that said I LOVE my 6.5 for 90% of what I do with it (that 10% would be towing) it's my ranch truck and gets used as one

Empty both of my 6.5's get about 19-21 mpg my Burb gets 12-13 running empty
