My screwy messed up wiring harness has so many ruddy wires on the main starter terminal it looks like Medusa's hair. Anyone else with 6.2 experience--is this stock? Reason I'm asking is the PO thought he was an electrical genius and was sadly mistaken, I'm trying to get the harness back to factory . . .

Three on the main stud, one to the solenoid.

I am pretty sure that mine only has three, however, mine is not stock as I redid the engine harness a few years back. I went to a library and got the chevy wiring diagram for it, that way I could eliminate what I did not need and be sure it would still work.

Go over to SteelSoldiers.com. They have the appropriate manuals in PDF form for download:D

My manual for 87 shows 3 wires, a black and red to the starter lug and purple to the solenoid. I am going through this right now on my gas motor. Trying to relocate everything and clean it up at the same time.

well, I've got the entire wiring system spread out on my garage floor now :o and I stripped all the loom and tape off so I could inspect it all. Found a bunch of problems in various places, so every terminal's getting wirebrushed, every new patch soldered into place and covered with heat shrink, etc. Anyway, the three 12v wires from the main starter stud look like they're factory, two go straight into the fuse block and one goes to the factory two-post junction block on the top of the firewall.

Two of the wires had multiple crimped butt connectors in the first 15" from the starter :eek1: :(. Not no mo'!
